Danza Guadalupana
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is on December 12th (USA).December 12th is a day of worship and to honor the Virgin of Guadalupe, through pre-Hispanic rituals and dances. European musical instruments, brought to America during the Spanish conquest, have been incorporated into the ritual dances of indigenous peoples of the Americas. Male dancers use pre-Hispanic loincloths with ornaments, pectoral plumes with cap and shield, featherbraided ankles, and rattles. Female dancers wear a blouse or dress, sequin embroidery with a Aztec motif, jingle-bell ankles, headband headdress, rattles or censers...to venerate the Virgin of Guadalupe with dances and music. The celebration is festive, cultural, and spiritual.
On the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we celebrate with the Patron of the Americas - Mary the Mother of Jesus. The European Missionaries who came to Mexico with the conquistadors were not successful in converting the indigenous peoples of the Americas, until miracles began in 1531. Mary the Mother of Jesus appeared to Juan Diego and many signs and wonders followed. One sign was her image on Juan's mantle, in which Mary appeared as an Aztec princess rather than European royalty, and spoke with Juan in his native tongue.
